I was about 12 when the show started, and I loved it right from the start. I loved Butch Cassidy, so when the series started I watched it right from the start. I know that a lot of women like the show because the actors were "cute," or good-looking, but I, as a man, liked it because of the kind of characters the actors played. Heyes was clever without being a know-it-all, and Curry was tough without being macho. And I think the plots were also very clever. In fact, a man named John Thomas James (or something like that -- I bet that was a pen name) wrote a number of the stories for the show, and he also worked on The Rockford Files, another show I really liked because of the clever stories.
Anyway, I remember vividly when Pete Duel died, and I was heartbroken. I watched that show all the way to the end, even though Roger David never was able to take Pete's place.
I have been searching for websites about AS&J for a while now, and yours is easily the best.

Peter Dual was my fantasy hero when I was growing up. (along with Shaun Cassidy.) When I found out he had died I really didn't believe it. I just found out tonight (5/16/03) that it is really true. I have thought about the show often, but only recently thought about checking for it on line. I would watch it again if it was on here in Missouri. Love you always, Peter!

I wish Ben a happy birthday today. It's great that he and
Roger Davis got reunited last month,for AS&J. I wish Pete
Duel were with them. I was fond of him on AS&J,than them,but
it's too bad,that he's with the Lord,after 31 years,of a gun
suicide.
I have a question to ask,Carolyn. Did Ben attend Taft High
School in Chicago,where the Elvis imitator Ral Donner,used

I was nine years old when Pete Duel died and I remember telling my cousin that it couldn't be true because I saw him on TV in one of the Alias Smith and Jones episodes. Do you have any comments? Like mostly everyone else here, I had a crush on Peter Duel. I was 9 years old when he died, and I remember feeling depressed for about a week or two over his death. Now, over thirty years later, those old feelings I had for him have came back, and I can't seem to pull away from this wonderful website!!!. Great website! Just another Pete Duel fanatic checking in... I used to think I was "all alone" in my devotion, too, and then, come to discover that there are thousands of us! Thank You for a wonderful site! I have been a great fan of ASJ since I saw it in swedish television for the first time back in 1974.Now it is rerun in swedish TV 3- And I am so happy for that! Hello, nice to read all the info about Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry. The series were tremendously popular here in Sweden in the 70's and I was one of the biggest fans (not so old by then though), but I never missed one episod. Swedish TV now show a rerun with the original cast (Ben Murphy and Pete Duel). I still love it, no series like that anymore. Keep up the good work!

Being a huge fan of ASJ and especially Pete Duel in AUS in the early 70s was frustrating to say the least- so little press on the show and the guys. To find this site and all the images and info has truly really ***MADE MY DAY**. I recall the news of Pete's death on TV but never really knew the reasons behind it. Such a tragic tragic loss of a truly gifted person, by press accounts. I feel I have finally got to "know" him. Thnakyou, so much. Just to say thanks for a great website, Carolyn. I've been visiting it for some weeks now - found it through the Club Deb Smith and Jones site - and re-living the memories ever since we finally got hooked up to the internet. And I feel I've only just touched the tip of the iceberg in what you've taken the time and trouble to put on there. I only looked up a site on old tv programmes out of curiosity to see if it was listed - and now look what I've got into! I'm a sad anorak - but it makes me feel good that I'm not alone. I did think I was the only one left.... I was in about third or fourth year at grammar school in the north east of England, aged 13 or 14, when I discovered AS&J (thanks to my paternal grandfather who was an avid reader and watcher of westerns) and a whole bunch of us were madly in love with either Pete or Ben. We were devastated that night news of Pete's death was broadcast on the BBC's Nine O'clock News. Pete was my favourite in those days, and I'm sorry to upset any Roger Davis fans out there, but I'm afraid the programme still doesn't work for me with Roger instead of Pete. The chemistry's not there, nor the sparkle. (Funnily enough, that opinion was voiced, totally unsolicited, by my stepson, now aged 21, when the BBC was doing a re-run a couple of years back and he was watching it in between college lectures) Anyway over the years I've come to appreciate Ben too, and they're both up there in my list of heroes, alongside Mr Spock, King Arthur and Merlin, Alan Rickman, Francis Crawford (of Lymond, anyone out there also into Dorothy Dunnett?), the National Theatre of Brent, and Mr D'Arcy (though not necessarily as portrayed by Colin Firth). I TOLD you I was a sad anorak! Anyway, caught rambling again - do keep up the good work.

I have just spent the last 45 minutes reliving some of the wonderful memories and emotions that ASAJ generated when I was just 9 years old. I watched all the episodes without fail and I was amazed to discover that I seem to remember most of the scenes in the "sound files" and even some of Pete Duel's poetry that I thought was long since buried in the recesses of my mind. Not so. Confirmation of the impact the duo had on me and countless others. You know, I really don't think they make shows like that anymore. Well done, really. I love this site! I check in on it everyday from work. Thanks for the Tip on the tape from Blackstar. I had already ordered the pilot from Suncoast (about $8.00 I think), but I was excited to get "The Wrong Train to Brimstone" and "The Root of it All". Blackstar charged $41.00 for the converted tape. At 12 years old I was a huge "Alias Smith and Jones" fan and devastated when Pete died. I was faithfully viewing all of the "Alias Smith and Jones" Episodes that were on daily (10:00am PST) on TV Land. Thanks, Andrea Hancock

I was only 6 when Pete Duel died it was very sad. After Roger replaces him my siblings and I refused to watch the show, we where mad. But, when it airs today a bit of a different story , but I do believe the chemistry between Ben and Pete was incrediable. Thank you for making this sight it really brings back the memories. I was surprised how much Pete and my late fiance looks where similiar,funny how these things might be in the old sub conscience. huh? They can get away with murder with those big dimple grins. Your website is great. I'm so glad I found it. I was in my mid teens when the show aired. I loved the show so much that I wrote episodes and two endings when the show was cancelled because I couldn't bear us not knowing what happened to Heyes and Curry. I sent my first one to Ben Murphy thinking he would never see it. HE DID and wrote me a short note in this handwriting and on his personal stationery - thanking my for my interest and for caring. He also included a postcard photo of him as Kid Curry. Needless to say, I cherish those items. Thank you for your outstanding work on this website. I will visit it often. I was a great fan of Roger Davis also. I thought he did a great job filling in for Pete Duel - during a very urgent and painful time. Does anyone know what became of Roger? I don't hear his voice on commericals anymore. Used to watch him on Dark Shadows before ASAJ. Keep up the GOOD WORK.

Great website. It's so nice to see that other people remember the Deuel brothers. I love Pete Duel in all his roles and when his brother Geoffrey was introduced in the move with John Wayne I couldn't believe it. Two handsome, sweet guys from the same family, wow. I'm quite literally a brand new fan of Alias Smith and Jones. The show began and ended before I was even born, but through the magic of TVLand its become my new favorite. Hallo and happy new year to all emailers of alias smithand jones and of course to you also! I had a good christmas and new year I was busywriting off to newspapers for estimates only to see if the charity auction jan busell is doing can be advertised I have also contacted and spoken with a d,j, at rochester new york to see if a message can be broadcast out live the d,j, is talking with someone he knows in the film industry then getting back to me! the message would go out something like this" "would listners please send any pete and ben articals to me at my address then they will be sold to make money for ecology/animals etc" I am passing them onto jan busell who will then sell them for the charitys I will let you know the outcome! I am very pleased with what has happend so far ,and want to get more radio stations intrested . I just got a new computer and for the heck of it I did a search for ASJ and I could not believe there are several sites for this. I absolutely loved this show and Pete the most and it was the first time in my life where I learned what it meant to "lose" someone, even though I never knew him. I was always f big fan of Peters - in fact had a fan club for him. Watching re-reuns on TV Land are such a visit to years gone by..... Through the years of dong the club, I talked with so many nice fans - I believe ASJ fans were a notch above the rest. I just found this WONDERFUL site about a week ago when I went on line for te fisrt time and decided my first sreach would be for my first big crush...Pete Duel. Just thought I'd let you know that I changed the print size on my Westerns on Television page. It's now larger, though it is still red (I find red on black easier to read myself). I hope you don't find it too terribly offencive that I am not an Alias Smith and Jones fan, but then as they say, one's man's treasure is another man's garbage! Comments: I was just a tiny tot when AS&J was shown originally in the UK (just three years old in fact!)so I missed out on all the teen mag stuff at the time. Thanks to my older brothers and sister though I became a big fan and never missed an episode when they were repeated years later. These days we only get the odd episode shown every now and then - wish they'd reshow the whole lot. Pete Duel was, is and will remain my favourite actor ever, loved all your articles on him. Comments: One day a few weeks ago I discovered ASJ was showing on TVLand. It was like finding a long lost friend, a best friend. Pete Duel was the only celebrity I ever had a poster of or bought magazines for the articles of him. I lived from week to week just to see his amazing smile. I was 12 when Pete died and I never forgot all the feelings he evoked in me. I started taping the episodes and was amazed to find his charm had not faded any, despite my years of change. Details of his suicide had grown fuzzy for me and my net search led me to your site. Thank you for such a wealth of information and memories. Comments: I was a big fan back in 69-70-71 and I'd gone to the county fair the August of 71 a fortune teller told me I would be with the man I most admired which in my book meant I would Marry Pete Deuel. Well his death came as a big surprise and disappointment. About 5 years ago I was in the Classic Century Square (antique mall) on Central here in Albuquerque and I was looking at buttons, and when I looked to the side, there was Pete. Its a photo-painting of Peter Deuel in his black hat in a gilt frame, I believe that it was once in a Gallisteo Hotel or Museum. Well I'd quit my regular day job and was working part time at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and trying to be a artistic seamstress part time when I put this painting on lay-away. The time kept creeping up to the end of the lay-away and I hadn't paid a cent on it. One Friday I won the KRST daily $1000. (the last one they had for awhile) And I was home sick that day, and almost did not call in! So indeed the gypsy was right. I am with the one I most admired. He hangs on my wall!

Comments: I'm so happy I found this site. Like several who have signed here before me, I thought I was the last ASJ fan around. I thought Pete created a delightful character in "Heyes," just the sort of guy that's so much fun to have around. I couldn't bring myself to watch the show anymore after his death. I mean no disrespect to Roger, I know he was put in a difficult situation. I enjoyed him in DARK SHADOWS and he was one of my favorite villians on ASJ when he guested in "Smiler With a Gun." But IMHO Pete created a unique "Heyes" that could not be replaced. I've often wondered what other characters Pete would have created had he lived. Somehow, I feel we missed out on some really good stuff.

Comments: I am sitting here in shock, somewhat. I thought I was the last surviving fan of Pete Deuels. It is so nice to have found others, who, like me will never forget him. Thank goodness for the internet. Now we have a place to meet and share our thoughts. Before, we never would have found each other. I was 11 year old when Pete died. To this day, I rememeber what I was doing and how I felt. I still have not gotten over it but I have gotten on. Every year on the anniversary of his death, I go to church and light a candle.
