Swimming and befelled by a cramp, fifteen-and-a-half-year-old
Frances Lawrence is rescued by surfer Jeff Matthews, called Moon
Doogie by other surfers. Nicknamed "Gidget"* (*According
to the movie, a reference to height for a girl who is approximately
five feet two; not tall yet not a midget.) she befriends Jeff
and discovers a new life: the world of surfing.
