FASTEST FUN IN THE WEST
Vogue, August 1, 1970
Gunilla and Michael and Pete are on the right track, looking great and grooving on California's luxe new Ontario Motor Speedway. An easy ride from Los Angeles, OSM is the only speedway in the world to handle all four types of major sanctioned auto racing events--kicks off September 6 with the first California 500; follows up November 21-22 with the first in the World Series of Drag Racing, the National Hot Rod Association Supernationals; and rounds out the annual schedule early in '71 with a 500-mile stock car race and a Grand Prix sportscar road race. Crowd-pleasers, above: Gunilla Lindblad in a dirndly violet jersey mididress, flanked by two actor-driver chums--Pete Duel, the beard, of the movie Generation; Michael Douglas, Kirk fils, next in Summertree. In the foreground: C.R. Possell's championship Indie-type Lola, hopes high for the California 500. Dress by 499-Division of Kloss-Pruzan, of Trevira and wool (Brandy fabric). $50. Henri Bendel. Watch: Bill Blass for Vantage. Belt by Elegant. In gear, opposite page: Gunilla--in a long cardigan pull, and tucked-in pants of beige lamb's wool--raps with Michael alongside an organe Lola T-70 Group 7 Can-Am sportscar owed by Bob Bondurant, who heads the School of High Performance Driving at OMS. Turnout: Me+ Plus by Catalina. Pull, $16; cardigan, $18; pants, $20. Best & Co. Odyssey belt. Eudora watch.

[There are two more pages of photos and text, but Pete isn't in them.]
